Back on the 30th May we started a different art collaboration than the usual ones, it was no tribute, not meant to be a challenge or even a contest.
Instead the focus was and is super simple, every group member can claim one video game character and create an artwork that is drawn or created with other methods, even cosplay would count. The only rules and limitations are that each game character can be claimed by only one group member. The artists that claimed a character have 2 months to create and submit their artworks which are getting featured in journals like this one.
11 submissions were done in the first month, June 2015 but July saw a big increase which is the reason why this journal won't be the only one in August about the submissions. 23 super different game characters were illustrated by a mix of old and new Game-Art-HQ Community members. And if you think this project sounds like an interesting idea, you are welcome to visit the journal about it and participate as well!
Have fun having a look at the first 11 of the 23 submissions from July!
Mewtwo was the first submission in July and submitted on the 4th July by and also the first Pokemon claimed for the Project which means that over 750 more are available btw.
Toni Hoang Nguyen from Australia draws a lot Pokemon fan art in this style which looks very fitting to those characters I think!
Just one day later we got the next finished submission. from the UK drew a really cool character that needs to return in a new Twisted Metal game if we will ever see one. Sweet Tooth is probably one of the craziest and scariest of all clowns in video games and Playstation-Jedi drew the guy in all his different designs he got over the around 20 years since the first Twisted Metal. Lets see if someone will claim Minion or Calypso as well.
This is Christie from the Dead or Alive fighting games and drew her in June actually but well, I forgot to request the image and hmm did not feature it in the July journal. Sorry about that @ SteveMillersArt . Christie is an assassine in the DOA games and one of the few female antagonists there.
I guess everyone knows this one, Princess Daisy from the Super Mario series! She was drawn by from the UK who is a pretty new GA-HQ group member and thought about a Mario or Mushroom Warriors game which could be a similar experience than Hyrule Warriors and Princess Daisy could use a Baseball Bat as her weapon.
I like the idea, those "Warriors" games are always super fun. Am looking forward to the western releases of Pirate Warriors 3 and Dragonquest Warriors.
Castlevania fucking rocks and I hope it will never completely die and Bloodstrained will be a worthy successor that will work as an inofficial Castlevania game.
aka Rhett Whittington from the USA drew Eric Lecarde one of the protagonists from the relative unknown Castlevania: Bloodlines on the Sega Mega Drive.
Its one of the few Castlevania games I never played, and this fan art reminds me that I should finally do that someday.
Nyotengu is the second Dead or Alive character that was claimed for the GA-HQ Project so far and she was drawn by from Greece, one of the first artists that participated in art collaborations organized by myself. Must admit that I played only the first version of DOA5 but Nyotengu looks interesting Can she fly?

I think that this submission is a great example for the - in my opinion - best feature of this project. You can really choose every kind of game character, be it from a totally new game or a game that is almost forgotten now..like - sadly - MediEvil..an action adventure series on the first Playstation that had the potential to become Sony's alternative to the Legend of Zelda maybe. This funny guy there is Sir Daniel Fortesque the undead main protagonist of the games.
He was drawn by from Poland who participated previously in some of the art collaborations on FGE but it was her first submission for a project here on GA-HQ.
:bigthumb546499164:
Relative many fighting game characters were claimed in June and July, including one of the maybe coolest ones ever, Paul Phoenix from the Tekken series in his classic look from Tekken 3. If you ever played Tekken, you know this guy and hate his Phoenix Smasher Attack I bet
He was drawn by from Sweden who was invited by me just a couple days before in July after I saw this :thumb545603148: artwork by her.
Its awesome to see so new group members getting active already
Decapre from Ultra Street Fighter IV was a new character met with a lot criticism to Capcom last year because a new character was hyped for the game for over a half year and the players expected more than just a clone character of Cammy White. Decapre is really fun to play though, different enough from Cammy and personally I found it fun to see one of the "Shadaloo Dolls" again after Street Fighter Alpha 3. She was drawn by from the USA.
Enough fighting game characters now, its time for the first champion character of the popular League of Legends MOBA in the GA-HQ Project. Orianna, the lady of clockwork is a pretty interesting character design I think and from Spain did draw her very well.
is a longtime group member and contributor who created a lot of damn epic Final Fantasy fan arts. His submission for our 20th Anniversary of the first FF is the maybe biggest and most epic FFI fan art ever made. He claimed a very unpopular Fnal Fantasy protagonist for the project with Leon from Final Fantasy II. Its always fun to see that not so known characters are the first that are taken by Game-Art-HQ contributors while the popular ones are often taken by new group members and it takes much longer until the more known guys are taken. Like in the case of Final Fantasy anyone from FFVII-FFXV.
We got pretty new characters lke Orianna and Nyotengu claimed as well as 20 year old guys like Sweet Tooth or Eric Lecarde, protagonists as well as villains, enemies or even vehicles like the Vic Viper can be claimed in this project. If it is continuing like now we have a very interesting gallery by the end of the year that shows a big variation of video game characters. If you are interested to take a part in this art collaboration, visit
The 2nd feature of the July submissions will arrive on Saturday 15.08.
Have a great August everyone!

The GA-HQ Interview #1!
Just a few days ago I had the idea to use a weekly journal to let 1-3 group members introduce themselves a bit through a few questions I ask them about their games, art, dA and other topics.
Both of the first two artists are members of Game-Art-HQ since years now, Mortalshinobi even since the start back in 2012!
Despite the changes at dA, please have a good read, I hope these interviews are fun to read, and help to get to know some of the group members a bit better!
Cheers and a nice weekend everyone!

It is time to find alternatives.
DeviantART was an awesome place when I joined it in ..I think 2010.
I created a Mortal Kombat group which became one of the biggest one for that game series here, also :iconfighting-game-elite: which is one of the most active and biggest fighting game related groups now and of course Game-Art-HQ with its over 9000 members ..I bet it is the most active and maybe among the biggest groups here on dA as well now and since years.
But deviantART changed. It changed this, it changed that. It became...worse.
Now in 2020 I am unhappy with many of the changes which made a great navigation more and more difficult with the times ..but Eclipse is the
Weekly Group Interview Idea
Heya, I had the idea recently to do a weekly journal with an interview between me and Game-Art-HQ Group members.
I would ask you 5-8 questions related to video games, art, deviantART and other related topics.
If you find this idea funny and you would like to be featured, simply mention it via a comment or directly PM me
Greets and a ..healthy good time everyone!

Our GA-HQ Character Collab!
We have a big video game character art collaboration, organized in rounds here since years, the last one started in February and over 30 more game characters were drawn in the style of their artists, but always with the same guidelines: Full Body, no Background via a .png file.
